Not Just Cake!
Here are some fun and unusual dessert ideas to consider, along with the traditional choices, to make your wedding’s sweet ending a memorable one:
Traditional Wedding Cake:
Start with the classic tiered wedding cake as the centerpiece, with flavors and designs that reflect your style and theme. Be sure to consider the style and decoration of the cake vs the taste. Fondant can be used to make some amazing cakes but the flavor, especially with dark colors, is not great. Have your cake that looks like a fire-breathing dragon but have sheet cakes available for your guests. OR…
Cupcake Tower:
Instead of a traditional cake, consider a tower of cupcakes with a variety of flavors and decorations.
Mini Dessert Bar:
Create a mini dessert bar with bite-sized versions of traditional favorites like mini cheesecakes, tarts, and cupcakes. My daughter had cookies, brownies (Turtle!) and bars from her favorite childhood bakery. They were a huge hit and it’s a great way to offer variety. Although, sadly, there were few leftovers. 😀
Ice Cream Sundae Bar:
Let guests customize their ice cream sundaes with a variety of toppings, from sprinkles and hot fudge to fresh fruit and nuts. Soft-serve ice machines can be rented so guests can self-serve. Or if you have someone who is willing to be the head scooper, there are freezers to rent that keep the ice cream soft for easy serving. We used this type of freezer for root beer floats for my son’s graduation party.
Candy Buffet:
Create a candy buffet with jars of colorful candies and sweets. Guests can fill bags with their favorite treats to enjoy or take home as favors.
Pie Table:
Offer a pie table with a selection of sweet and savory pies. It’s a charming and rustic dessert option. Don’t forget the ice cream and whipped cream!
Mini Pancake Stacks:
Serve mini pancake stacks with layers of fruit and whipped cream. It’s a delightful brunch-inspired dessert.
Chocolate Fountain:
Set up a chocolate fountain with an assortment of dippable treats like strawberries, marshmallows, and pretzels.
French Macarons:
Add a touch of elegance with a macaron tower in various flavors and colors. Macarons are not only delicious but also visually stunning.
Churros:
Have a churro cart serving fresh, warm churros with a choice of dipping sauces.
Gourmet Popcorn Bar:
Set up a popcorn bar with a variety of gourmet popcorn flavors, from caramel to cheddar.
Dessert Shooters:
Offer dessert shooters, which are small, layered desserts served in shot glasses. You can get creative with flavors and presentations.
Fruit Skewers:
Offer fruit skewers with a variety of fresh fruits and a chocolate dipping sauce.
S’mores Bar:
Create a DIY s’mores bar with marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers. Guests can roast their marshmallows for a fun and interactive dessert.
Remember, the key is to choose desserts that resonate with your taste, style, and the overall theme of your wedding. Mixing traditional options with fun and unusual treats can add a delightful touch to your dessert offerings.
