Starting Your Wedding Journey After a Holiday Proposal
If you were one of the lucky people to find a little box under your tree this year, congratulations! Christmas is a very popular time to get engaged. The spirit of giving is in the air, everyone (except the occasional Scrooge) is happy and festive and with families all gathering, it’s the perfect time to announce your news.
Then, after the holidays are over and the decorations are stored for another year, you might start to wonder, “Now what?” Well, don’t worry, I’ve made a free download for you to help you get pointed in the right direction. And, I’ll send you weekly updates with great tips and ideas to help you along the way.
But first…write down your story. You might think you’ll never forget it but trust me, some details will fade. Include things like:
- Where did it happen?
- What was the time of day?
- What was the weather like?
- Who else was there?
- Were you surprised?
- Whom did you tell first? What was their reaction?
- How was the question phrased?
- What was the answer? (we are pretty sure my daughter never actually said “yes”!)
Keep this in a safe place. Go old-fashioned and actually print it out! And save it to the cloud, of course.
Another thing to consider is keeping a history of your dating story.
- Where did you meet?
- What did each others families think when they first met you?
- How long did you date before you got engaged?
- Who brought up getting married first?
There are some really cool services (i.e. StoryWorth) that will email you questions on a regular basis (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) and when you’re all done, they print them into a book. You can customize the questions they send you and gear it towards your engagement story, wedding preparations, wedding day and honeymoon. I think this would be so cool (and likely therapeutic) to take time to capture the excitement, fun and yes, some struggles, of your engagement and wedding story.
